Di Cousens OAM

Di is a marriage celebrant, poet and photographer based in Melbourne.

She qualified as a celebrant in 2021 and creates unique ceremonies in collaboration with couples and families.

Her poetry is published journals and anthologies and her photographic portraits of poets are used in publications and websites. Her most recent book is One Breath which was launched by Kevin Brophy AM in December 2024.

She is one of the producers of community radio 3CR’s Spoken Word program and for ten years has interviewed poets, young and old, who are both famous and not famous, about their work.

Di has a PhD in Himalayan Studies from Monash University and is a past President of the Federation of Australian Buddhist Councils, the founding President of Sakyadhita Australia and Vice-President of the Buddhist Council of Victoria. She is in demand as a speaker on Buddhist topics and is active in interfaith dialogue. She contributes to national and international conferences in the fields of engaged Buddhism and the Tibetan treasure tradition. In 2023 Di was given a Medal of the Order of Australia for her contribution to the Buddhist community.
